In a duplex system, total protection life can exceed the simple sum of what galvanizing and epoxy would each provide on their own. Industry data on duplex systems (galvanizing plus paint) commonly cites a “synergy factor” of roughly 1.5 to 2.3 — meaning the combined system can last 1.5 to over 2 times longer than adding the individual service lives of each coating.
